Nova Granada (lit., New Granada) is a municipality in the northern part of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The population is 19,180 inhabitants (IBGE/2010)[1], and the area is 533.49 km². The elevation is 542 m.

The city belongs to the Microregion of São José do Rio Preto.

History

In September, 1911, the town of Vila Bela was created by Francisco dos Santos. In April, 1917 Vila Bela was elevated to "Police district" with the name of Pitangueiras. The village of Pitangueiras was officially established as a district of São José do Rio Preto in October of 1917.

The emancipation and establishment as a municipality happened in December 19, 1925. In March 22, 1926, Nova Granada gains its municipal chamber.

The Tertiary sector is the economic basis of Nova Granada. Commerce, services and administration corresponds to 62.3% of the city GDP. Industry is 16.2% of the GDP. The Primary sector is relevant, with 21.4%.[2]
